Week 29 – The Wonder
Info
I walk around and wonder, look around and ponder, close my eyes and contemplate.
That’s how I am. I can’t stop, and even when I try to make myself, my mind finds a way by itself…
There are so many incredible things in the world. As I wrote last week, sometimes we need to change the perspective for a fresh view. This week I can also tell you look closer, deeper. More often than not, there is much more behind that shallow view.
It’s up to you if you want to discover it.
Tech
200mm, 1/100s, f5.6, ISO 200
A very easy set-up. One strobe at 1/64 power, snooted and orange-gelled, as a main aiming down to light the face. Available light used as a moody fill on boxes while second strobe at 1/16 and heavy blue gel for background.
Walkthrough
The above shot is my location, shot on P-mode with -2/3rd compensation. My camera chose f5/6 at 1/13th of a second with ISO 200. I used 200mm lens for compression.
First things first, I changed the mode to manual and set my camera at 1/125th of a second. It suddenly changed the mood in the room:
The place I chose to place myself was just below one of lamps. It happened to be strong enough to give me some minimal fill light, in addition boxes were quite reflective which emphasized the texture. I added the key light (SB-28) at minimal power with almost transparent orange gel and a snoot on it. The light was aimed at around 60 degrees down – this way it didn’t leave much trace on the wall or boxes.
I added a second light source (SB-24) with a very strong blue gel and another snoot. It was placed at the end of the corridor aiming at boxes that would otherwise fade out in darkness. It added some more mood, maybe imitating a window with a night-like light outside. In addition a proper angle gave a slight reflection behind my neck that I find quaint.
And finally, cropping, color correction and a bit of contrast…
Trivia
Living within Studentsamskipnaden in Oslo has both pros and cons. Pros are obviously low price, quite good location and relatively calm environment. I won’t mention cons right now, maybe some other time;) One of amazing places around is the post building (there is also a laundry, I will come back to it someday..). A very long corridor full of post boxes that was impossible to go by.
Hope you enjoyed, see you soon!
