Week 24 – The Burnt

Jun 27 2010

Info

Burnt houses are often left alone in here. Nobody cares nor bothers breaking them down. They just stand there. Those abandoned places change you. They evoke those overwhelming feelings of dissolution and ceasing.

Photographers love such spots. You can always find out something new about your subject or, with self-portraits, about yourself.

The above photo was fully spontaneous. When we were sitting on a beach, we hoped for a beautiful sunset, but cloudless sky and heavy wind wasn’t helping. On the way back from the coast, I asked a friend of mine, Skupi about some crazy, interesting wall in our town, and fortunately for me, he instantly knew the answer.

Tech

50mm, 1/320s, f8, ISO 200

One light set-up. The softbox was on a boom handheld by Skupi, just above the frame to the right. Strobe lighted both the subject and the wall. It was pitch black in there so focusing was a hell.
