Week 17 – Back on White

May 07 2010

Info

It has been a long time since I shot on a white backdrop and after last week’s dark shot, it’s the best time to try it out again. Especially when the weather is so gray and rainy.

This photo doesn’t unfortunately have any story behind it. It’s just my favorite jersey, my only belt and my only pair of jeans. Yea, I got only one jeans, other trousers are either straight cotton or cotton corduroy. I guess I find them more comfortable.

And when it comes to the belt, when I found the right one, I just never felt a need to buy any other.

Tech

The technique is simple, you set the strobe at the backdrop, choose the power so it’s pure white on a shot. Then you add the key light, and then the second one.

50mm (75mm on FX), 1/500s, f9, ISO 200

All strobes were at 1/4th power although the key was softened by the umbrella which also reduced the power a bit.

Other small things…

Now a bit off-topic. I’ve been lately thinking about technology as a whole, the changes that we can now observe, how much the world will be different in 10 years (it will) and many other, overwhelming things. Maybe not overwhelming, but certainly huge.

While thinking about big stuff, you can easily forget about those small. Fortunately, that’s where the music comes for my rescue. Lately I dug out some Apocalyptica songs from my resources (the ones w/o percussion, old style) and fallen back into their sound. Now I can’t wait to get my hands on the new album, hope they done it well.

My favorite song is Unforgiven (at the end of the post). You should check it out.

So how is the world doing today? I think people are a bit crazy (like if it was any news, heh). But seriously, I’m constantly amazed by how much we achieved, yet not even a percent really appreciates it. Maybe it’s time we stop thinking only about ends of our noses and start going into the real thing?

The real thing?, you would ask.

All we need to do is to get over those relatively small disagreements that can only lead to more disruption. “Hate can only create more hate” is one of my favorite statements, because it’s so true. The more chaos people introduce to our everyday lives, the further away from the future we are.

So what’s the future I would like to see? The future of united, yet diversified world. Idealistic? Yea. Impossible? No.

The future is now.

Just some random thoughts, hope you don’t mind. Check out the music below and let me know what you think.
