Week 15 – The Black Heart

Apr 24 2010

That’s my heart. Not figuratively (…), but literally. It’s a piece of stone shaped as a heart. I have it everywhere with me. it’s in my backpack (so if you steal it, you will steal my heart, heh).

I’ve got it for a long time now. It doesn’t matter where I got it, I treat it differently. I got used to having it, and it reminds me that sometimes you need to be cold-hearted (black-hearted) in life.

No emotions here, but I really like how it feels in hand:)

Tech

The heart was lighted with a snooted SB-24 at 1/16th power from the right, slightly above the camera.

18mm (28mm on FX), 1/500s, f11, ISO 200

I used two other strobes from sides, slightly behind to show who’s hand it is, but dark enough so it’s not distracting.

Trivia:

  • Since I started getting up much earlier (and going sleep earlier too) it got harder for me to take dark photos. The summer is coming and much longer days with it. At the moment I’m going sleep with a sunset, and getting up just before the sunrise.
  • I use Wolfgang Włóczykij 24 backpack. If you’re in Poland, get one of those, good and durable stuff.
  • The heart is in a pocket that I never use, so basically I rarely ever remember that I got it there.
  • My hand looks so big because of the wide lens. I would use even winder, but unfortunately I don’t own one.
  • Because of the wide setting, I had problems setting side-lights so they didn’t give any flare (there was no space for flags). At the end there was just a little flare on sides that I removed in post.

What things do you carry with you everyday?
