Week 1 – On the White

Week One of Fifty, yes, it is happening! Just now I’m starting up my 50 Weeks Project where for the next 50 weeks I will be posting my self-portraits, thoughts and more.

Each photo will have it’s dedicated blog post for comments and additional information, and a dedicated web page where you will be able to view big, 1280px wide pictures! Sometimes I will also post additional photos that I took in addition to the conceptual one, as the one below.

My first photo of the year. I planned it much earlier, so when it came to shooting I could concentrate on modeling only.

As you can see on the diagram, lighting was very simple. Single strobe for the white backdrop, one strobe from the left for the highlight on hair and my right chick and a big reflector for fill.

So whats the story? Relatively simple: new year, new look, new prospects for the future.

I wanted to create a contrast-full image with a white background. I achieved it with a back/side lighting that made the center of my face dark but still gave a strong catch light in the left eye.

Other Shots

No, I haven’t used gel for those hair! Hehe;) I was shaking and swinging with my head like on a serious rock concert. On many pics my head wasn’t even in the frame. I like the expression I achieved, so mean and serious but can be funny at same time.
