Lacie Rugged
So I got myself a new drive, Lacie Rugged 320. It’s a sweet, little and rugged hard drive.
My first impression is that it’s amazingly light. My Seagate weights a ton comparing to this thing!
My main usage of this drive is on-road backup so the weight and portability were most important factors. In addition, this LaCie can work in much more bouncy environments than most other drives, and it’s said to be quite kick-resistant. It’s not only about the outside bumpers but also the special construction inside.
I got the idea for this hard drive from Terry White, thanks a lot Terry! It’s a damn good value for money. You can read more about the drive on his blog.
We will see how this thing really works. So far I’m happy, the first backup took around 20% less time that on the Seagate, which is twice as big, has external power (LaCie is USB powered) and faster spin. So far so good:)

In my experience, these drives aren’t nearly as rugged as they are claimed to be.
Just take the orange shell off and you’ll see what I mean.
I prefer something in a metal case wrapped up in gaffers tape.
MIL-STD-810 is good enough for me. Not mentioning it doesn’t look quite pro having a disc in a gaffer tape…
loved the soft focus and hope you are having a good time with Lacie!
Yup, it’s doing good job:)
I need a new drive too, my old one’s almost full. This one looks cool :)
@Carmi Cool and good, works very well so far, and a few my friends had those for a longer time and they never got disappointed.
